Tempered Glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. b.Tempering puts the outer surfaces into compression and the inner part is in tension. Such stresses cause the glass, when broken, to crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury. c.As a result of its safety and strength, tempered glass is used in a variety of demanding applications, including passenger vehicle windows, shower doors, architectural glass doors and tables, refrigerator trays, as a component of bulletproof glass, for diving masks, and various types of plates and cookware.
1). Temper Glass is also called Toughened Glass.Tempered glass has been processed intense heating and rapid cooling in a controlled process.
Tempered glass will not break into sharp shards, but will instead break into small pieces or fragments. These fragments of tempered glass also called cuboids, because of their shape, and will not cut or cause harm as easily as regular glass.
2). Most Common Users of Tempered Glass
Tempered glass is used when thermal resistant, strength and safety are the primary considerations.Tempered glass is most commonly found in the side and rear window of automobiles.
Tempered glass is also widely used in building, for frameless glass doors, slider doors or any application where human contact and safety are considerations.Cell phones sometimes have tempered glass in their construction, because of its durability and scratch resistant quality.
Tempered glass is also used for cooking and baking utensils.
